Oncoming traffic in the Øresund Bridge tunnel
Road traffic will be two-way in the Øresund Bridge tunnel during week 24, from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. on both 10 and 11 June.
Around 20 minutes before 19:00 and after 03:00, there may be shorter waiting times in connection with the reorganisation of traffic.
Similar two-way diversions are carried out four times a year on the Øresund Bridge, when routine maintenance is carried out.
Speed will be reduced during the work and overtaking will not be allowed during the diversion. Wide vehicles (over 3.5 metres) will not be able to cross the bridge during the two-way traffic.
Train traffic will operate as usual.
Multiple roadworks affecting traffic on the Øresund Motorway
The Øresund Motorway will be expanded over the coming years to improve traffic flow, which is currently affected by significant congestion and queues during peak hours. In April 2026, Sund & Bælt began the first stage of the project, consisting of an expansion with additional lanes between exit 20, Copenhagen C, and exit 17, Airport West.
In addition, a parallel ramp will be constructed between exit 19, Ørestad, and exit 20, Copenhagen S. The expansion coincides with several other roadworks on Amager, including Energinet’s work on Vejlands Allé, which is putting pressure on all roads in the area and generating additional traffic onto the Øresund Motorway.
The City of Copenhagen has compiled an overview of all ongoing works (Danish)
How the work is carried out on the Øresund Motorway
On the Øresund Motorway, traffic is diverted to the outer lanes to allow work in the central median along the entire stretch. This means that the lanes are narrower than usual and the speed limit has been reduced to 80 km/h. As a result, traffic may be denser than normal and congestion may occur – especially if additional traffic enters from the on-ramps.
In addition, there is no emergency lane for the remainder of the construction period, making traffic more vulnerable in the event of incidents. Traffic on the Øresund Bridge
The Øresund Bridge is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. However, special situations may arise due to wind and weather, maintenance or accidents, where we work with the authorities to close the bridge to traffic.
On this page you can always see the traffic status, whether there is a queue at the toll station and if there are any special places on the connection where you need to pay extra attention due to roadworks etc. We will also inform you when there are any disruptions in train traffic over the connection.
Skånetrafiken is in charge of train operations and you should contact them in case of train cancellations, delays etc.
Border control
The Swedish police perform border controls on the Øresund bridge towards Sweden and, in rare cases, towards Denmark. You must be able to show proof of identity.
