Traffic disruption on the Øresund Motorway from 20 October

Major traffic disruptions expected on the Øresund Motorway due to crane work related to the expansion of Copenhagen Airport Station. The last exit to the airport on the E20 – in the direction toward Sweden – will be closed, and motorists will be directed to use earlier exits.

During rush hours in particular, the work may cause queues from October 20 until the end of November. Expect longer travel times and disruptions during this period.

How traffic will be affected

  • The E20 toward Sweden will be temporarily closed, and traffic will be two-way on a stretch of about 1,500 meters near Copenhagen Airport.

  • Exit <16> Lufthavn Ø/Kastrup will be temporarily closed. Drivers heading to the airport are advised to use Exit <17> Airport West or one of the earlier exits along the route.

  • Other motorists not heading to the airport are advised to use Exit <18> Tårnby or <19> Ørestad.

  • Traffic across the Øresund Bridge: If queues form toward Denmark and extend into the tunnel, traffic regulation may be necessary. This is a safety measure to prevent congestion inside the tunnel. Traffic will reopen as soon as possible.

  • Restrictions for special transports. Between October 20, 2025, at 09:00 and November 14, 2025, at 18:00, special transports wider than 3.30 meters or longer than 30 meters are not permitted to pass through the area.

Useful advice

  • Follow road signs carefully.

  • Expect longer travel times.

  • Drive cautiously and keep a safe distance.

  • Missed the last exit to Kastrup? Do not turn around on the road. Instead, continue to the toll station in Sweden and contact the staff there. They can assist with a free turn-around immediately.
It is extremely important not to attempt a U-turn or drive against traffic, as this poses a safety risk.

Oncoming traffic in the Øresund Bridge tunnel

Road traffic will be two-way in the Øresund Bridge tunnel during week 43, from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. on both 22 and 23 October.

Around 20 minutes before 19:00 and after 03:00, there may be shorter waiting times in connection with the reorganisation of traffic.

Similar two-way diversions are carried out four times a year on the Øresund Bridge, when routine maintenance is carried out.

Speed will be reduced during the work and overtaking will not be allowed during the diversion. Wide vehicles (over 3.5 metres) will not be able to cross the bridge during the two-way traffic.

Train traffic will operate as usual.

Traffic on the Øresund Bridge

The Øresund Bridge is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. However, special situations may arise due to wind and weather, maintenance or accidents, where we work with the authorities to close the bridge to traffic.

On this page you can always see the traffic status, whether there is a queue at the toll station and if there are any special places on the connection where you need to pay extra attention due to roadworks etc. We will also inform you when there are any disruptions in train traffic over the connection.

Skånetrafiken is in charge of train operations and you should contact them in case of train cancellations, delays etc.

Border control

The Swedish police perform border controls on the Øresund bridge towards Sweden and, in rare cases, towards Denmark. You must be able to show proof of identity.
