Replacement of expansion joints - limited accessibility from August 31

Two of Øresundsbron's largest expansion joints are being replaced simultaneously – a solution that shortens the total project time by a full year.

The work is planned to affect road traffic as little as possible, but for approximately eight weeks, accessibility across the bridge will be limited. Only one lane is open in each direction.

Øresundsmotorvejen is being expanded

Øresundsmotorvejen will be expanded over the coming years to improve traffic flow, which today is often characterised by extensive queues and congestion during rush hours.

Sund & Bælt has begun the first phase of the work, which involves an expansion with additional lanes between exit 20, Copenhagen C, and exit 17, Lufthavn V. In addition, a parallel ramp will be constructed between exit 19, Ørestad, and exit 20, Copenhagen S.

Please note! The E20 is closed to special transports wider than 4.30 metres in the westbound direction (from Sweden towards Copenhagen) from Monday 24 August 2026 until 27 November 2026. For any questions, please contact ta-vej@sbf.dk.

Traffic on the Øresund Bridge

The Øresund Bridge is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. However, special situations may arise due to wind and weather, maintenance or accidents, where we work with the authorities to close the bridge to traffic.

On this page you can always see the traffic status, whether there is a queue at the toll station and if there are any special places on the connection where you need to pay extra attention due to roadworks etc. We will also inform you when there are any disruptions in train traffic over the connection.

Skånetrafiken is in charge of train operations and you should contact them in case of train cancellations, delays etc.

Border Control

The authorities carry out border controls towards Sweden and in rare cases towards Denmark. Here you must be able to show identification.

Temporary Traffic Restrictions Due to Maintenance Work in Kastrup

Road traffic in Kastrup, before the tunnel in the direction of Sweden and after the tunnel in the direction of Denmark, will be restricted during the night of Wednesday, 19 August, due to necessary maintenance work on one of the Øresund Bridge’s barriers. The work is being carried out to ensure a continued safe and reliable traffic connection.

The maintenance work is scheduled to begin at 11:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening, 18 August. The work will be carried out at night to minimise the impact on road traffic.

How road traffic will be affected

From 11:00 p.m., the left-hand lane in both directions will be closed at the work area. Traffic will then be guided past the work site in the remaining lane.

If the work proceeds as planned, motorway traffic will be closed completely in both directions for approximately 30 minutes from around midnight. Traffic will then reopen.

The work is expected to be completed during the night.

How to keep traffic flowing as smoothly as possible across the bridge:

  • Allow extra travel time while the work is underway.

  • Follow the instructions at the site and show consideration for staff and work vehicles.

  • Adjust your speed and drive carefully through the work area.

  • Follow the current traffic situation on www.oresundsbron.com and in the Øresund Bridge app.

We apologise for any inconvenience the maintenance work may cause and thank you for your understanding.
