The operation of Øresundsbron has become greener with 10,000 square metres of solar panels on Peberholm and 3,000 square metres of solar panels at the toll station in Lernacken.
In 2025, total solar electricity production amounted to 2,516 MWh, corresponding to approximately 48 percent of total consumption. The production target of 1,500 MWh of self-generated electricity has thus been exceeded, and the revised target of 2,500 MWh has been achieved.
At the toll station, there are 3,000 square metres of solar panels. The first phase was completed in 2018 and the second in 2021.
The solar panel installation on Peberholm was established in 2023 and consists of 3,840 solar panels covering 10,000 square metres. The solar panels are placed in an area of lesser ecological value for birds and plant life on the nature-protected island, between the railway and the motorway on the southern part of the island.
The solar panels on the bridge deliver approximately 2.5 GWh per year, corresponding to around 45 percent of the electricity needed to operate the bridge. This represents yet another major step towards the Øresundsbro Consortium's vision of becoming the world's most sustainable bridge.
Last year, the bridge consumed approximately 5.4 GWh of electrical energy, which is more than half the 12.7 GWh consumed during the bridge's first full year of operation.
