Why do I need two contracts?

Summary

To get a discount when crossing the Øresund bridge, you need two contracts:

  • A contract with a payment provider – the company handling your payments.

  • A discount contract with Øresundsbron, the operator – we are providing you with the discount when crossing the bridge.

Here’s why this setup exists.

Toll Roads in Europe – Then and Now

Travelling on toll roads across Europe used to be complicated. Each road had its own payment system – requiring different contracts and equipment. Some tolls had to be paid in cash, others required a bizz, and for some you needed a sticker on your windshield.

Since 2019, you can use a single payment solution on several European toll roads, even if they’re operated by different companies. This is facilitated through a payment provider under an EU-wide system known as EETS. The system is still evolving, but Øresundsbron is already part of it.

The EETS directive separates payment providers (issuers) and operators. So what does that mean for you?

The Payment Provider Handles the Payments

A payment provider is the company you sign your payment contract with. They process your toll payments for different road operators, using either your license plate or an electronic device, like a bizz.

Øresundsbron’s own payment provider is ØresundPAY, but you're free to choose others. As long as your provider has a contract with Øresundsbron, you’ll get access to our discounts.
You can find an updated list of all approved providers here: [link]

What Øresundsbron is Responsible For

Øresundsbron is the operator. That means we manage the bridge and the toll station – including maintenance, operations and making sure everything works when you are using the bridge.

We also offer discount contracts like ØresundGO, which give you a lower price on crossings. However, we don’t handle your payments – your payment provider does.

My Account – Combined Overview

Under My Account, you’ll find information from both the operator (Øresundsbron) and your payment provider. You can see both contracts, check if they’re active, manage your vehicles, and track how you’ve used them.

Using ØresundPAY?
You can easily add, update or remove vehicles directly on My Account. You’ll also see all your trips on toll roads covered by ØresundPAY and can update your payment card.

Using another provider?
In that case, visit their website to make changes – such as adding license plates or ordering a bizz.
